She initiated her Function with a view that evoked self-made man Jay Gatsby in his correspondent shoes and oversize Prince of Wales checks. After she transformed Jay into the twenty-first-century self-made man, running hellish riot in graffiti-ed suitings and skins.

Donatella made it clear that she wanted to reflect power on her audience using the exaggerated volumes of her Clothing Collections. Though, a suit in a classic windowpane check that had been defaced with punk-style scrawls pointed to something being strange. When she showcased jackets with pushed up sleeves or a motocross outfit outlined in gold zippers and Baggy leather pants snapped at the ankle, Donatella was challenging the borders of real Taste and Choice.

It was a small step from that to showcasing a hunky young guy in black lace lingerie. He was wearing an evening jacket and biker boots, which compounded the ambiguity. Challenging conventional notions of sexuality were something of a Versace signature in the golden days. Donatella just found new ink for her pen and many papers to write on.
